Faster to the next step.
Spend less time manually stripping outer die-cut waste and more time on the next converting stage.
Remove outer die-cut waste directly from the stack, many times faster than by hand. Watch the video to see the process.
For cartonboard, microflute, corrugated board and corrugated polypropylene sheet. Laminated sheets can also be processed.
Product photo: AWEX-T3. The following footage shows earlier models in use.
The video shows earlier models. The speed shown is also achievable with current tools; depending on the model and application, higher speeds may be possible. A new video is planned.
The rotating toothed chain removes the segmented outer waste edge section by section. The die-cut cardboard blanks remain aligned in the stack.
The AWEX carton-stripper is a pneumatic tool for removing outer die-cut waste. Depending on the market, supplier and terminology used, you may also encounter the names Waste Stripper, Pneumatic Waste Stripper, AWEX carton-stripper, AWEX carton-stripper, Pneumatic Stripping Gun, Stripping Gun. Some American customers also use “jackhammer” informally. Here this refers to the carton stripping tool with a continuous toothed chain, not a demolition hammer.
Compare the video with your manual stripping process. Use the labour time saved, labour costs and operating costs to estimate the potential payback period.
Spend less time manually stripping outer die-cut waste and more time on the next converting stage.
Labour time saved can reduce your processing costs. The potential savings depend on your application.
The die-cut blanks retain their alignment during stripping, supporting the next converting stage.
Reducing the number of holding nicks to the necessary minimum can significantly speed up waste stripping.
Before use, check stack preparation and the compressed-air supply. The diagram shows how additional cuts divide the outer die-cut waste into separate segments.
More questions and answers ↗The outer waste edge must be divided into sections by relief cuts, as shown in the schematic. These cuts can be incorporated into the respective cutting dies. The waste edge must be at least 8 mm wide for cartonboard and microflute, and at least 20 mm wide for corrugated board.
While the tool is running, 6.3 bar (91.4 psi) must be available at the tool. The compressor and supply must meet the model’s specified air consumption. An upstream filter-regulator-lubricator unit (FRL), with regulator, pressure gauge, filter/water separator and lubricator, is mandatory. Check oil level and delivery regularly: at least one drop of air-tool oil per minute must be supplied during operation. Total hose length from the FRL to the tool must not exceed seven metres, including a balancer’s coiled hose.
All models remove outer die-cut waste. The appropriate version depends on the material and waste edge. See the product details for dimensions, stripping chain, chain guard and other differences.
An 8 mm wide toothed chain and narrow chain guard reach narrow waste sections deeper in the stack.
The same narrow stripping chain and chain guard as the 8AC, with two-handed operation.
Compact design with a 20 mm stripping chain. Successor to the AWEX-T2.
The compact T3 version with two-handed operation.
A 650 W industrial air motor and 20 mm stripping chain for waste sections requiring greater applied pressure.
The powerful T4 version with two-handed operation.
Both levers must be pressed to run a model with two-handed operation. Releasing either lever stops the tool.
AWEX-T2 and AWEX-T2 2hand are no longer available. We still offer repairs and spare parts for AWEX-T2 and AWEX-T2D. Many of our tools can be supported for decades. Please ask about the options for your particular model. Service for your T2 models ↗

AWEX carton-stripper mechanically remove outer die-cut waste from stacks of die-cut sheets. The chain strips the segmented waste edge while the blanks remain stacked for further converting.
In our experience, materials with a grammage of around 100 g/m² or more can be processed. Suitability depends on the material, die-cutting and the width of the die-cut waste.
Reducing the number of holding nicks to the necessary minimum can significantly speed up waste stripping.
Our AWEX tools remove outer die-cut waste from paper, cartonboard, solid board, corrugated board and microflute, as well as suitable corrugated plastic sheets (corrugated polypropylene, fluted PP sheets or twin-wall polypropylene sheets). The material, die-cutting and waste width determine the appropriate toothed chain and tool version. Laminated sheets can also be processed.
The outer, divided die-cut waste is mechanically removed from the stack using a hand-held AWEX carton-stripper. The application video shows the principle. The device is intended for die-cut waste removal after punching.
Depending on the material and waste edge, AWEX-8AC, AWEX-T3 or AWEX-T4 are possible. All three are also available with two-handed operation. Describe your punched formats to us so that we can recommend the appropriate device.
AWEX carton-stripper are used for cardboard, corrugated cardboard, microflute and plastic corrugated cardboard. The decisive factors are the specific material design, the punching and the divided outer waste edge. We check your application and recommend the right tooth chain.
Spring balancers support tool handling. Chain repair kits and air preparation units complete your workstation.
Reduces the effort of guiding and lifting the tool. Adjust the balancing force and cable length to suit the working height.

Our history →We repair AWEX tools manufactured by us and help with spare parts, maintenance and possible upgrades, including older tools.
If purchased through a dealer, contact that dealer first. After seven days without a reply, contact us directly. Direct AWEX purchases, transferred tools, second-hand purchases or auction purchases may be referred directly to us. You can also approach us first; we may involve the relevant dealer. This also applies to tools we manufacture under other brands or colours. Photos of the tool and nameplate help identify it.
AWEX-T2 and AWEX-T2 2hand are no longer available. The current T3 and T4 ranges continue the product line. We continue to support older tools.
In most cases, we also find a suitable solution for the AWEX-T2, AWEX-T2 2hand, AWEX-T2D and numerous predecessor models since the mid-1980s - from repairs to technical upgrades to the current state of the art.
Many of our components have remained the same over the decades. This enables a long-term supply of spare parts and forms the basis for repairing older devices or upgrading them with current components.
Repair and upgrade options are assessed individually. Contact us with your model designation, ideally including photos of the tool and its nameplate.
Some equipment manufactured by us is sold by distribution partners under their own brand or product names, sometimes in different colours. Repairs and spare parts are normally arranged through the respective distribution partner.
Please first contact the dealer from whom you purchased your equipment. They will handle your enquiry and coordinate the next steps with us as needed.
If that contact is permanently unavailable or service cannot be arranged through them, we will be happy to assist you directly. Please provide the model and serial number and, where helpful, a photograph so we can check the origin of the equipment.
Proven tools can be upgraded: for example, we can convert a standard pneumatic AWEX-T2 into an AWEX-T2 2hand with two-handed operation.
Both operating levers must be pressed for the tool to run. Releasing either lever stops the tool.
We assess individually whether and how your older pneumatic AWEX tool can be converted to two-handed operation. Send us the model designation and, if possible, photos of the tool and its nameplate.
The invention of the handheld AWEX carton-stripper with a rotating toothed chain by mechanical engineer Helmut Wolter laid the foundations for AWEX. Since the company was founded in 1984, we have developed and manufactured tools that greatly speed up the removal of outer die-cut waste.
Today, Michael Wolter runs the family business in its second generation.
We manufacture our tools in-house with specialist companies in our region. The air motors are supplied by Atlas Copco.
